Final Stats
RALEIGH, N.C. - Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) and Kristi Preuss (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) each drove in two runs and Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) earned her second victory in two days, as the Georgetown University softball team (6-6) defeated host NC State (10-8), 8-2 on Saturday night at the Wolfpack Classic.
The top of the Hoyas order proved productive as Peters, Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) and Carter each had two hits, and Preuss, who batted in the clean up spot, hit her second home run in as many days for Georgetown's offense. Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) also proved a tough out, going 2-for-3 with three runs. Carter was able to do the rest on the mound holding the Wolfpack to two runs, one earned on five hits over 7.0 innings.
Georgetown struck in the top of the first inning as Preuss, with a runner on second base, homered over the right centerfield wall to give GU a 2-0 lead. Georgetown would add two more runs in the top of the second when Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) scored on a throwing error and Garcia scored on Peters' single to centerfield, expanding the lead to four.
NC State broke through in the bottom of the third, scoring one run on a Georgetown throwing error. The Hoyas would score three more in the top of the fifth inning as Garcia crossed the plate on Hanson's single, before Carter and Hanson each scored on Wolfpack errors to take an 7-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning Alyssa Ishibashi drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt to close the gap to five, at 7-2.
Peters would drive in one more for Georgetown in the top of the sixth inning, singling up the middle to allow Garcia to score from second base. From there Carter held NC State scoreless to preserve an 8-2 victory for the Blue and Gray.
Morgan Peeler took the loss, allowing eight runs, though just four earned on nine hits over 7.0 innings.
The Hoyas return to action on Sunday when they take on Longwood at 10 a.m.
