Georgetown Softball Falls to Rutgers, 7-1

April 28, 2010

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (17-27, 6-10 BIG EAST) committed five errors, including three in Rutgers' five-run sixth inning, to fall 7-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Guy Mason Field.

Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) went 2-for-4 and drove in the Hoyas lone run, while tossing 5.0 innings, allowing five runs, though just one earned on five hits, while striking out four. Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss allowing two runs, one earned on two hits in 0.2 of an inning.

Rutgers opened the game quickly, as Ashley Bragg drew a one out walk and Brittney Lindley was hit by a pitch. Mandy Craig would single to left field to drive in Rutgers first run. The Scarlet Knights would score again on a ball bobbled in left field, to take a quick 2-0 lead.

The Hoyas loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Carter singled to lead off the inning. With one out Demetria Cipriano reached on a throwing error and Shikara Low drew a walk. Though GU was unable to capitalize after an inning double play ruined the opportunity.

The Scarlet Knights would add two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Kylee Bishop and Lindsey Curran. Two more Georgetown errors helped lead to three more RU runs, giving the Scarlet Knights an insurmountable, 7-0 lead.

Georgetown tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Carter singled to drive in Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy), who had doubled in the previous at-bat, making the score 7-1. That was the last offense the Hoyas would manage.

The Hoyas travel to Chicago, Ill. this weekend to play a three-game series with DePaul. Georgetown will play a doubleheader with the Blue Demons on Saturday beginning at noon, before concluding the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
