WASHINGTON - The Class of 2010 made their final game at Multi-Sport Field one to remember. The No. 12 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (10-5, 7-0 BIG EAST) came back from a seven-goal, second-half deficit as well as a controversial call at the end of the first overtime to get the 13-12 double-overtime victory over the No. 13 Loyola (Md.) University Greyhounds (11-6, 5-3 BIG EAST) Wednesday evening. With the win, the Blue & Gray stays perfect in the BIG EAST and improves its win streak to seven.

"Our experience from the beginning of the season really helped us tonight," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "We learned not to look back on what we could have done, but to look ahead to what we need to do. We did that tonight when we were down and it fueled the comeback."

Georgetown struggled to open the game trailing 3-1 midway through the first. Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) hit back-to-back goals to pull within one, but Loyola continued to have the upper hand leading 7-4 at the half.

The Greyhounds looked to be in control opening the second as Loyola went on a 4-0 tear. With just 17:24 remaining, the Hoyas had showed little offense and trailed by seven goals.

Kirr sparked a run a minute later tallying back-to-back scores and freshman Kelsi Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep) then found the back of the cage on a free position to make it 11-7.

The difference-maker, however, was freshman Sophia Thomas (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Prep) who picked up the ensuing draw and streaked down the field passing through the Loyola defense. Thomas found Ford next to the cage who scored shifting the momentum entirely in Georgetown's favor.

Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scored at 12:09 to pull the Hoyas within two and then connected eight minutes later to make it 11-10. Thomas tied it up taking the pass from Kirr at 1:19 as Georgetown capped off the comeback forcing overtime.

After a scoreless three minutes, GU got the draw in the second half of the overtime. The Hoyas held onto the ball before running a play for senior Bunny O'Reilly (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside School) who found the back of the net for the supposed game winner. Loyola won the draw and looked to score with seconds left, but a turnover gave GU the ball back as the squad sent it to the goal for time to expire.

Unfortunately, an offsides call in with a premature celebration forced the referees to put six seconds back on the clock and gave Loyola a free position which they hit to tie it at 12.

In the second overtime, the Blue & Gray got the draw and set up a play for Kaestner who scored the game winner at 1:06 making the final 13-12 after the controversial finish.

"We learned a big lesson on that play, I'm just glad we learned it on a win and not a loss," said Fried.

Kirr led the Hoyas with four goals and one assist, while Kaestner added the hat trick. Georgetown outshot Loyola 32-23 and had ten more draw controls (19-9). Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was outstanding in goal making seven huge saves.

The game marked the final home game for the eight member of the senior class, many of whom had impacts in the victory.

"Our seniors stepped up. We ran the play to Bunny in overtime and she scored, Ashby scored the game winner and Caitlin Formby had some big saves," said Fried.

Georgetown will finish out the regular season on Saturday at No. 9 Syracuse. The Hoyas will take on the Orange at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports.
