Georgetown Softball Falls to Syracuse, 6-0

April 3, 2010

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (14-17, 4-2 BIG EAST) fell behind the Syracuse Orange (15-15, 1-2 BIG EAST) early and could not battle back, falling 6-0 to the Orange in the conclusion of their three-game series on Saturday morning at Guy Mason Field.

The Orange scored runs in the first three innings, as the Hoyas bats were kept quiet until the fourth inning. Despite the loss, the Hoyas have won two-of-three games in each of their first two BIG EAST Conference series'.

Syracuse started quickly, as Veronica Grant led off the game with a double and would cross the plate on Lisaira Daniels' single. Lacey Kohl would later double to drive in another run to give the Orange a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

Stacy Kuwick hit a solo home run over the right field fence to extend the lead to three runs, helping her own cause in the top of the second inning. Hallie Gibbs would hit a home run of her own, a two-run shot, in the top of the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) broke up Stacy Kuwick's no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a single through the left side of the infield and Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) was hit by a pitch, but the Hoyas were unable to capitalize. It would be the last time Georgetown would threaten.

The Orange plated one more run in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 6-0 victory. Stacy Kuwick earned the victory, tossing 7.0 shut-out innings. Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over 3.0 innings. Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) allowed one run on two hits over 4.0 innings of relief.

The Hoyas return to action on Tuesday, April 6 when they travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on UMBC at 2 p.m. GU returns home to Guy Mason Field on Saturday, April 10 to play a doubleheader against BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh beginning at noon.
