WASHINGTON - Four members of the Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad were named Regional All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association on Friday. The Blue & Gray had a pair of seniors named to the first team and two more student-athletes on the second team. The BIG EAST had 24 total honorees and Georgetown was one of seven schools with players on the first team in the South Region.
Co-captain Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named to the first team after an outstanding senior campaign. The attacker scored a team-high 51 goals and also had 25 assists for 76 points on the season. She had seven points on three different occasions this year including a six goal, one assist performance at Villanova. Ford also scored the game winner in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinal against Loyola (Md.). She was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree and the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. This is Ford's third Regional All-America honor.
Classmate Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) also got the nod to the first team after playing one of the most well-rounded games in program history. Kaestner was second on the team in scoring with 49 points on 37 goals and 12 assists. She also led the squad in draw controls with 48 and ranked fourth in caused turnovers with 20. The co-captain scored five goals three times this year and scored the game winner in overtime against Loyola (Md.) during the regular season. Kaestner was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team. She has earned Regional All-American three times in her career on the Hilltop.
Georgetown's second team honorees included a pair of defenders that both moved to the defense this season after playing in the midfield for much of their careers. Junior Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and sophomore Kelly Barnes (St. Davids, Pa./Radnor) helped a defense that went undefeated in conference play and won the BIG EAST Tournament.
McCraw posted a team-high 32 caused turnovers this season which ranks this year among the best in program history. She led the squad in ground balls with 40 and was second in draw controls with 39.
Barnes had 22 caused turnovers to rank third on the squad, as well as five goals and one assist on the season for six points. She ranked third in ground balls with 28 and fourth in draw controls posting 19. Barnes was one of just three sophomores on the second team.
Georgetown finished the season with a record of 13-6 and a perfect 8-0 mark in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas won the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship as well as the tournament title for the first time in program history. Georgetown earned the conference's automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament marking GU's 11th tournament bid in the past 12 seasons.
