The Georgetown Women's Rowing Team continued their fall season as they competed at the Princeton Chase this Sunday, October 30, in Princeton, NJ. The 3-mile head race, hosted by Princeton University, is an extremely competitive one, drawing crews from as far away as Indiana and Virgina, as well top teams in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions. Despite an early snowfall and chilly conditions, the race ran smoothly.
The Hoyas fielded four eights: two varsity openweight eights, a lightweight eight and a novice eight. In the Women's Open Eight Event, the varsity eight finished 34th in a field of 49 crews in 16:45; the second varsity eight finished 38th in 16:56. The lightweight eight finished 37th at 16:55, the only lightweight crew in the event. Virginia won the event in 14:35.
"For the varsity crews at the Chase, the goals were to race internally and focus on power," said Head Coach Miranda Paris. "We want our athletes to spend this fall building a solid technical base of length and connection. Our focus is on the spring."
The freshman raced well in the Novice Eight, finishing 7th of 18 crews in a time of 17:10. Virginia won the event in 16:05. "It was a good first result for our freshman," said Paris, "I think we have a lot of potential in this group and we're excited to see them progress through the year."
The Hoyas will wrap up their fall racing season at the Head of the Occoquan this coming Saturday, November 5th.
