WASHINGTON - Junior pitcher Will Harris (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) gave up one unearned run over six innings and Georgetown had the tying run on second base with none out in the ninth inning, but could plate the run as the Hoyas lost to Davidson, 2-1, at Wilson Field Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Georgetown's record to 1-1 overall, while Davidson improves to 1-2 this season.

Trailing 2-1 in the ninth, freshman Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) reached on an infield single and moved to second when senior first baseman Dan Capeless (Centreville, Mass./Boston College HS) was hit by a pitch, but Wildcats pitcher Mike Frongello induced a force out at third for the first out before a double play ended the threat.

The Hoyas trailed 1-0 after five innings, but tied the game with a run in the sixth. Senior catcher Erick Fernandez (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah) hit a two-out triple to right, plating senior third baseman Sean Lamont (Houston, Texas/Bellaire), who was hit by a pitch after Davidson starter Ryan Overcash retired the first two batters.

Davidson jumped on top in the first inning when Jack McLindon hit a leadoff single, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on a single from Drew Gadaire.

Harris went 6.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

He came out in the seventh and was relieved by sophomore Tommy Polus (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean). Polus walked the first two batters he faced before being relieved by senior Mike Seander (Cranston, R.I./St. Raphael Academy). After a walk to load the bases with one out, Kelly Myers hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home the go-ahead run.

Seander, a transfer from Duke who was a freshman All-American in 2007, went 2.0 innings, giving up no runs on no hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Georgetown closes out its weekend with a single game against Army on Sunday, Feb. 20. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
