WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior softball player Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Savarese helped the Hoyas to a third place finish at the Lowcountry Invitational last week, as Georgetown closed out the tournament with a 2-1 win over UNC Wilmington on Saturday.
In five games, Savarese hit a gaudy .667, going 10-for-15 with two doubles and two RBI. She extended her hitting streak to six games and has five multi-hit games in those last six contests. Overall, the Blue & Gray's starting first baseman has 12 hits in her last 18 at bats and has raised her average nearly 200 points in the past week. With her hot stretch, Savarese is now fifth in the BIG EAST in batting average (.444).
Beginning her tear with a 2-for-3 performance in a 2-1 win against NC State on February 27, Savarese was 2-for-2 in the next game against James Madison and 3-for-3 in the first game of the Lowcountry Invitational against UNC Wilmington. She was only retired once (2-3) in a game against Charleston Southern on Friday and was 1-for-3 against USC Upstate on Saturday. She completed her award-winning week going 2-for-4 with an RBI in a 2-1 win against UNC Wilmington in the third place game of the tournament.
This is the first conference nod for Savarese and the fourth weekly honor in GU's history.
The team plays again tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader against College of Charleston set to begin at 4 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
