WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer junior forward Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) was named the BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, while senior defender Tommy Muller(Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Neumann was also named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week and earned TopDrawerSoccer.com Forward of the Week.
Neumann scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 non-conference win against Lehigh University on Tuesday. On Saturday, he followed that up handing No. 4/2 Marquette its first loss of the season, as the junior forward assisted on the Hoyas' first goal before scoring the gamewinner for five total points on the week.
Neumann is currently second on the team in scoring with four goals and a squad and conference-best eight assists for 16 total points on the year. The award marks Neumann's and the Hoyas' first offensive player of the week honor of the season and the forward's second total award after earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on August 28. It is Neumann's first-career recognition as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Muller played a major role in the Hoya defense posting a 2-0 shutout against Lehigh on Tuesday. Not only did the defense allow just one goal on the week, but Muller scored his first goal of the 2012 campaign in the 2-1 win against No. 4/2 Marquette. It marks his fourth-career goal.
This is the first nod to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the senior captain and the sixth this year for the Blue & Gray.
Georgetown will be back in action on Wednesday as the team continues BIG EAST Conference play Providence College. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., at Glay Field. Live stats will be available through the PC athletic website.
