WASHINGTON - Senior outfielder Rand Ravnaas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints' Episcopal) had five hits to lead a 14-hit attack as the Georgetown baseball beat Charleston Southern, 12-3, in the first game of a doubleheader as the Hoyas split a pair of games. The Bucs won the nightcap, 6-2.

The teams played a doubleheader after inclement weather was expected in South Carolina on Sunday. The Hoyas are now 2-1 this season.

"Polus pitched well for us, but our offense came out and knocked their starter out in the fourth and we kept piling on," Head Coach Pete Wilk said. "It was good the bats alive in the first game, but we just got beat in the second game. I'm happy to get the series win, but I really feel like we had a chance to sweep and we didn't grab it."

Ravnaas went 5-for-5 with two doubles, three singles, three runs scored and three RBI as seven different Georgetown players had hits and three players had multi-hit games.

Senior second baseman Andy Lentz (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) went 2-for-5 with a double, single and three runs scored while junior shortstop Mike Garza (San Antonio, Texas/Douglas MacArthur) went 2-for-5 with a double, single and three RBI.

Georgetown jumped out on top in the first game thanks to a five-run second inning, with Lentz hitting a two-run double and Ravnaas and Garza each adding run-scoring hits. A three-run fourth inning gave the Hoyas an 8-2 lead.

Junior Thomas Polus (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) threw 5.0 innings in a winning effort, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits, with two walks and one strikeout. Junior James Heine (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) threw three innings of relief and senior Pablo Vinent (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) had a scoreless ninth inning.

In the nightcap, freshman Will Brown (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) gave up three runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings as CSU went on for a 6-2 win.
