WASHINGTON - Georgetown softball (9-15) dropped a one-run decision to Stony Brook (10-3) by a score of 4-3 in the final game of the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams came up empty in the first four innings. Stony Brook went three and out in five of eight innings while the Hoyas went three and out in four of eight.
Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) led the offense for Georgetown, going three-for-four with one RBI.
Stony Brook got on the board first in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Georgetown responded in the seventh when Savarese hit a single, and
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) hit a homerun to even the score.
The Hoyas struck first in extra innings when
Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) scored the go ahead run to give the Hoyas a 3-2 lead off a single from Savarese.
Stony Brook came back to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth to end the game.
Georgetown's next game will be at Drexel on Wednesday, March 14. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
