WASHINGTON -
Georgetown University softball (8-9) fell to Illinois State (10-10) 6-5 in a nine inning contest and South Alabama (10-6) by a score of 8-0 on the final day of the Citrus Classic Tournament.
Against Illinois State the Hoyas scored four runs in the third inning behind singles from
Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd),
Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) ,
Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit),
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo), and
Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake).
Hannah Slovacek hit a double to conclude Georgetown scoring for the inning.
Both teams posted a strong pitching campaign, with the Blue & Gray tallying a season high 13 strikeouts between Carter and freshman
Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada). Illinois State also pitched well, striking out 14 batters for Georgetown.
In the afternoon game South Alabama got out to a quick start, scoring seven of their eight runs in the first two innings. Jessica Dobson held the Blue & Gray to four hits from the mound. Lowe led the Hoyas with two hits. The junior catcher is on a four-game hitting streak.
Georgetown softball returns to action on Wednesday, March 7 for a doubleheader at UCF. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats for both games will be available through GameTracker at guhoyas.com.
