Box Score

WASHINGTON - A late seventh inning comeback attempt fell short as the Hoyas limited the Patriots to three hits in a 5-2 victory on Wednesday over George Mason, extending Georgetown's win streak to seven games.

Down 5-0 in the seventh inning, George Mason needed to get the offense going for any hope at winning the ballgame. They would manage to score two runs before sophomore Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) ended the game, striking out the last batter with two players left on base. Hyson came in to pitch the last inning after Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) pitched the first six in her ninth win of the season.

Georgetown played small ball to help score their first two runs, one in the first inning and one in the second. The Hoyas dropped a sacrifice bunt in each inning to put runners in scoring position, both of which would end up scoring. Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) singled in the first inning to drive in Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) and Hyson scored on a sacrifice fly by Giovanniello in the second to make the score 2-0.

Hannah Slovacek (Austin, Texas/Westlake) doubled to left center field in the fifth inning to score pinch runner Cristina Fletcher (White Plains, N.Y./The Ursuline School), who would also score in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly, again by Slovacek. The sacrifice fly tied her for a team-leading 16 RBIs on the season with Alexandria Antilla (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community).

Georgetown continues local play in Towson, Md. tomorrow afternoon when they face Towson University. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
