Oct. 27, 2014 WASHINGTON - This past weekend, a group of Georgetown baseball alums returned to the Hilltop for Homecoming Weekend. On Saturday, under perfect baseball conditions, the former Hoyas competed in the annual Alumni Game at Shirley Povich Field.
The highlight of the day was 70-year old Dave Beatty ('65) going 3-for-4 with the game-winning RBI, earning the most valuable player of the game.
A couple of other offensive standouts were Mark Siegel ('89), co-chair of the Hoya Diamond Club, going 3-for-4 and Cary Piligian ('10) also collected two hits.
Matt Carullo ('03) made the defensive play of the game, ranging to the middle of the field to scoop a ground ball and throw over to first for the out. Paul Perillo ('02) made several dazzling plays in center field and Bill Nachtigal ('88) caught four innings behind the plate, throwing out a runner attempting to steal. Nick Barnicle ('07) also donned the catcher's gear, making a nice catch on a foul pop-up.
Prior to the game, the alumni were treated to batting practice, thrown by Head Coach Pete Wilk. Billy Quinn ('05) entertained the alums and current Hoyas, knocking out four home runs. Piligian also hit a home run and Dan Capeless ('11) hit a towering shot over the fence.
