Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Georgetown baseball team (0-3) dropped a 9-1 decision to Towson (3-0) on Monday, closing out a tough season-opening weekend for the Hoyas. The game was played at Wake Forest's Gene Hooks Field.

Towson scored seven runs over the final three innings to pull away after Georgetown's starter, junior Will Brown (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca), held the Tigers to two runs on six hits over five innings while registering five strikeouts.

Evan Ryan (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) had hits in each of his first two at-bats, a bunt single and a sharp double down the left field line. Christian Venditti (Newtonville, Mass./St. Sebastian's School) also reached base twice with a single and a walk.

Towson broke through against Brown in the bottom of the fifth with three one-out hits - two singles and a double - to score a pair of runs.

The Tigers added three more in the sixth off of Chris Giordano (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland) on three singles, a walk and an error. They added four more runs in the eighth to break the game open.

The Hoyas scored their run in the top of the ninth when Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) led off with a walk and Eric Webber (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's) followed with a double down the right field line. With one out, Venditti hit an RBI ground out to the shortstop.

Georgetown will open its 2014 home schedule with three home games next weekend against Hartford. The two teams will open play at Shirley Povich Field with a 3 p.m. game on Friday before playing a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.
