WASHINGTON
- The Georgetown softball team (17-14, 7-1 BIG EAST) split a pair of BIG EAST games on Saturday afternoon at Guy Mason Field in Washington, D.C., against the St. John's Red Storm (16-18, 2-5 BIG EAST). The Hoyas won an extended 10-inning affair in game one in a walk-off fashion, 1-0, but dropped a shortened six-inning contest in game two, 12-2.

In two polar opposite games, the two teams combined for nine hits in game one across 10 innings and 22 hits in only six innings in game two.

Georgetown junior Lauren O'Leary (8-6, La Canada, Calif./La Canada) pitched a masterful complete game, 10-inning performance in game one, earning the win. The junior struck out five and only allowed two Red Storm hits to go along with her 133 pitches.

The Red Storm only gathered hits in the second and ninth innings.

Georgetown had some scoring chances early, but stranded two runners in the second inning and the bases loaded in the third.

Both teams did not record a hit from the top of the fourth inning to the bottom of the seventh when Georgetown sophomore Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial), who had two hits in game one, singled up the middle with two outs. Senior Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), who led off the inning with a walk, tried to score from second on the hit from the sophomore but was thrown out in a close play at home.

In addition to Giovanniello, Graziano and senior Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) both tallied two-hit games.

In the 10th inning, Anttila drew a walk to start the inning, one of nine walks for the Hoyas in game one. After a sacrifice bunt and a pinch runner for Anttila, freshman Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) stood at second with one out and sophomore Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) at the plate. Henry singled to put runners on the corners for the Hoyas. Freshman catcher Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) ended the scoreless streak for both teams when she hit a sacrifice fly to center field. The Red Storm centerfielder threw out a runner at home earlier in the game, but Ramsey beat the throw for the 1-0 win in game one as Georgetown celebrated at home plate.

In game two, Georgetown took an early 2-0 lead on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Graziano scored from third on a wild pitch in the inning and Giovanniello tallied an RBI single.

St. John's tied it up with a two-run home run by sophomore catcher Erin Burner in the top of the third. The Red Storm added two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead and did not let up, as Georgetown would not regain the lead for the remainder of the game.

St. John's had two-straight innings in the fifth and the sixth where they put up four runs on five hits to put the game out of reach and mercy rule the Hoyas, 12-2, after six innings.

Georgetown's Megan Hyson (9-8, Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) took the loss in the game and came out after four innings. O'Leary, who started game one in the circle, tossed the final two innings of game two.

Georgetown and St. John's close out the three-game series with a single game tomorrow, Sun., April 6 at noon ET at Guy Mason Field in Washington, D.C. Live Stats will be available.
