Final Stats

WASHINGTON - Butler scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Georgetown baseball team, 7-6, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. The game was played at Butler's Bulldog Park in Indianapolis, Ind.

Evan Ryan (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) led the offense with two hits and two RBI. Patrick Camporini (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) was on base three times with a single and two walks. Eric Webber (Stockton, Calif./St. Mary's) had two RBI. David Ellingson (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) battled through five innings on the mound, giving up five runs, four earned, while walking five and striking out two.

After the Hoyas (19-27, 5-12 BIG EAST) had jumped to a first-inning lead in the first two games of the series, it was Butler (17-29, 4-10 BIG EAST) that scored first on Sunday. A two-out, three-run home run gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 early lead.

Butler extended its lead to 4-0 before Georgetown broke out for five runs in the third inning. With one out, Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge) singled and Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) walked. Three-consecutive doubles, by Webber, Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines) and Steve Anderson (Albany, N.Y./Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep (Mass.)/Guilderland) knotted the score at 4-4. Three batters later, Ryan delivered a two-out single to score AC Carter (Winter Park, Fla./Orangewood Christian), who had reached on a fielder's choice, to give the Hoyas a 5-4 lead.

The Bulldogs tied things back up with a run in the fifth inning on three walks and a sacrifice fly. They retook the lead with a solo home run in the seventh off of Will Brown (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca).

Anderson walked to lead off the top of the eighth for the Blue & Gray. He moved to third on a pair of ground outs and scored an another two-out, RBI single by Ryan to tie the score at 7-7.

Butler scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Georgetown concludes its 2014 season with a 6 p.m. matchup at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) on Tuesday evening.

Notes - Camporini walked in the second inning to extend his streak to 31-consecutive games of reaching base safely ... Anderson's RBI in the third inning gives him 97 for his career.
