Dec. 14, 2015 WASHINGTON - Five members of the Georgetown University men's soccer squad earned 2015 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region honors last week. Senior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph), senior defender Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite), junior defender Joshua Yaro (Santa Barbara, Calif./Cate School) and junior forward Alex Muyl (New York, N.Y./Bard) all earned first team nods. Freshman goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) received a spot on the second team.
Allen became GU's first-ever MAC Hermann Trophy finalist on Friday as one of three players up for the top honor in college soccer. He was also a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree this season. It marked his fourth-consecutive All-BIG EAST honor and his third-consecutive nod to the first team. Allen had 15 points on six goals and three assists in conference play as well as four game winners. Overall, he led the team in scoring with 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points. He was seventh in the nation in total points and 10th in the country in game winners.
In his career, he has three-consecutive All-American honors, and four all-region selections.
With a goal against Hofstra University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Allen tallied his 50th-career goal making him the all-time goal leader in Georgetown program history.
Earlier this season, he was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Preseason All-BIG EAST and to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Best XI First Team. He was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions and to the honor roll twice as well as earning CollegeSoccerNews.com National Player of the Week honors.
Yaro, a NSCAA Second Team All-America honoree, was named the unanimous BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST for the second-consecutive year. The team captain started 17 games for the Blue & Gray this season, missing four contests due to injury, and played a key role in the squad's nine shutouts. On offense, he posted an assist.
Yaro was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Preseason All-BIG EAST and to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Best XI First Team. He was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 26.
This was his second-consecutive All-America award, and third-consecutive all-region selection. Off the field, he was named CoSIDA Academic All-District.
Rosenberry had one goal and four assists along with one game winner in conference play as well as two goals and six assists overall to rank as Georgetown's fifth-leading scorer with 10 points. The second-year captain was a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree for three-consecutive seasons. He was named Preseason All-BIG EAST and to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Oct. 5.
This is his second-career All-Great Lakes Region award.
Muyl rounded out the first team honorees after earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. The forward was Georgetown's second-leading scorer overall with six goals and a team-best 10 assists for 22 points. His 11 assists ranked him second in the league and eighth in the nation. Muyl had a squad-high six assists in BIG EAST play as well. He was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 28.
This was his second-consecutive nod to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, and his first regional honor.
Marcinkowski had a breakout rookie year for the Hoyas earning First Team All-BIG EAST, as well as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors. He started all 21 games for the Blue & Gray, and posted a 0.69 GAA on the season totaling 63 saves. The freshman went 16-2-3 in the net and managed nine shutouts. He already ranks third in single-season shutouts and eighth in program history in career shutouts.
He was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 14, and was a three-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week selection. Marcinkowski was also named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman squad.
The BIG EAST Conference dominated the first team earning nine of the 11 available spots. In total the conference had 16 honorees.
GU had an impressive season with a mark of 16-2-3 overall and 9-0-0 in BIG EAST Conference play. After opening the season 0-2-1, Georgetown went on a program record 18-game unbeaten streak including a 14-game win streak. With the Blue & Gray failing to advance in the NCAA Tournament, the unbeaten streak will continue into next season.
Along the way, the Hoyas won the BIG EAST Regular Season title with a perfect 9-0-0 record. It was the fifth time in program history that the Hoyas have won the regular season championship with the last coming in 2013 and the last outright championship coming during the 2010 campaign. The last time a team went a perfect 9-0-0 during the BIG EAST Regular Season was the University of Louisville in 2009.
Additionally, Georgetown won the BIG EAST Championship crown, marking the first time in program history that the Hoyas won the league's postseason tournament. The Blue & Gray was the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
