Georgetown Tennis Drops Meeting against St. John's

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's and women's tennis teams faced off against the St. John's Red Storm on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York, both teams fell 6-1 on Friday morning.

On the men's side, the Hoyas picked up a win when Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) defeated Federico Ruiz, 6-1, 6-4, from the No. 5 spot. Daniel Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y./Pendleton), playing from the No.1 slot, was taken down by Lucas Hejhal, 6-2, 6-3. Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) was defeated by Erick Reyes, 6-2, 6-4 from the No. 2 singles spot.

Freshman Marco Lam (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Boys' School) was able to take his match to three sets, but ultimately fell to Elio Livi, 5-7, 6-4, 10-7, from the No. 3 spot. Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla County Day) both fell by identical sets, 6-4, 6-2, to Vaidik Munshaw and MJ Every, respectively, from the No. 4 and No. 6 spots.

In doubles play, the duo of Beatty and Tropiano fell to Munshaw and Lucas, 6-3. Portner and Lam were also taken down, 6-3, by Reyes and Roberto Livi. The third singles match of Khanin/Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./Baldwin) was unfinished.

On the women's side, the Hoyas picked up a win in singles play when Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) defeated Stephanie Elgegren, 6-2, 6-3,

Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) fell to Anastasia Polyajova in three tightly contested sets, 7-6 (13), 3-6, 11-9, from the No. 1 spot.

Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) fell to Anna Morozova, 6-4, 6-2, from the No. 2 slot. Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) was taken down by Natalie Vavulina, 6-2, 6-1. Playing from the No. 5 spot, Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) suffered a loss at the hands of Zofia Stanisz, 6-0, 6-2.

Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) was part of another tightly contested three-set match, but she ultimately fell, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7, to Irina Preotescu.

In doubles play, the team of Saperstein/Barnard was defeated, 6-3, by the Morozova/Vavulina duo. Marx and De Chatellus were unable to compete with the team of Stanisz and Jaide Collins, 6-0. The Koenen/Panarese duo was unable to finish their match with Polyakova/Elgeren resulting in 3-3 tie.

The men face Marist on Saturday at noon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Blue & Gray women have a day of rest before traveling to Morristown, N.J. to face Seton Hall on Sunday.
