Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (1-5) lost, 15-8, to the No. 13/13 Penn University Quakers (6-0) Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field. The game was originally scheduled at Manhassett High School in Manhassett, N.Y., but recent snowfall forced officials to move the matchup to Franklin Field.

Three Hoyas led the way with with two goals apiece as five different players scored.

The Hoyas were outshot by the Quakers, 26-16, and tied on the draw with 12 each. Penn held the 22-8 advantage on ground balls and GU forced 11 Quaker turnovers while committing 15.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) took the loss in the cage with seven saves in the contest.

The Quakers opened the scoring in the first minute and went on a 5-0 run to begin the game.

Ten minutes into the game, the Blue & Gray got on the board as a turnover off of the draw control went to the Hoyas. Senior attacker Sammy Giordano (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) took it down the field for the clear and passed it to senior defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) who scored her third goal of the season to make it 5-1 at 18:44.

Penn answered with a score, but the Hoyas continued to fight back as junior attacker Kristen Bandos (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame of Namur) hit the unassisted tally at 14:11. The momentum was short lived, however, as the Quakers matched it less than a minute later to make the score 7-2.

The Blue & Gray locked it up on defense forcing a Penn scoring drought and chipped away at the lead as senior attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored her ninth goal of the season at the 7:31 mark. This sparked a 2-0 run as freshman midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) hit a free position goal on the ensuing possession to make it a three-goal game.

Penn managed a late goal in the first half, but the Hoyas fired right back as sophomore attacker Colleen Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) scored at 1:42. That would be the final goal of the half as the Hoyas went into the break trailing by three, 8-5.

Penn opened the second half with a goal to move ahead by four. However, Devine managed her second of the afternoon on an unassisted tally at 24:13. The squads traded goals one more time in the first ten minutes of the second half as Bandos managed her second of the game to make it 10-7 with 19:07 remaining in the contest.

That would be GU's final chance to regain the lead as Penn went on a 5-0 run spanning 17 minutes to take a 15-7 lead.

Seibel hit her second of the game at 1:04 to make the final 15-8.

Georgetown will have the week off before traveling to Johns Hopkins University on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against the Blue Jays. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and live stats will be available through www.GUHoyas.com.
