WASHINGTON - The Georgetown baseball team fell to Lipscomb University, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game series. The contest was played at the Bisons' Ken Dugan Field in Nashville, Tennessee.
Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) started on mound for the Hoyas and went 3.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks while registering two strikeouts. Will Brown (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) also had a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge) was the lone Hoya with a multi-hit effort, finishing with a pair of singles.
Georgetown (11-12) fell behind when Lipsomb (17-8) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Hoyas got a run back in the next half inning to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. AC Carter (Winter Park, Fla./Orangewood Christian) drew a one-out walk and went to third when Kuzbel followed with a single down the right field line. Chase Bushor (San Diego, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) then singled into right field to push Carter across the plate for his team-leading 20th RBI of the season.
The Bisons extended their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, doing all the damage with two outs.
Georgetown's offense could not muster any significant threat the rest of the way as the Blue & Gray had just three baserunners over the final five innings, but grounded into two double plays.
GU will conclude its six-game road trip with a midweek matchup at George Mason on Tuesday, March 31 at 3 p.m. The Hoyas will then open BIG EAST play with a three-game series at Shirley Povich Field against Creighton. Due to the Easter holiday, the games will be played Thursday (3 p.m.), Friday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.).
