Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The weather was a factor yet again on Friday afternoon in Clearwater, Fla. as the Hoyas endured a four hour rain relay in their first game versus the Colonials of Robert Morris at the Under Armour Showcase. After play was resumed, GU would drop an extra-inning matchup 4-2. The Hoyas now sit at .500 with a record of 6-6.

Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) dropped only her second game of the season in the circle. She had 11 strikeouts in the effort.

The rain halted the action in the middle of the first inning, preventing the Hoyas offense from seeing the field. After resuming play at 5:03 p.m., GU was first on the board as Sophia Gargicevich-Almeida (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King) singled up the middle to score Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) to put the Blue & Gray up 2-0 early.

Both teams played strong defense for the next two innings, as there was only one hit between the two squads from the second through the top of the fifth inning.

The Colonials got on the board in the top of the fifth inning scoring two runs off of four hits to tie it up at 2-2. Robert Morris had two runners on base in the top of the sixth inning but was unable to make anything of it and the game went into the seventh inning with the score still tied.

The seventh inning was swift, as all three Robert Morris batters grounded out and Georgetown went ground out, pop fly and strikeout respectively, to send the game into the eighth inning.

Robert Morris added two runs in the top of the eighth inning and Georgetown was unable to provide an answer and the game ended with the final in the Colonials' favor, 4-2.

Georgetown will resume action tomorrow morning when it takes the field against Western Michigan at 11:15 a.m.
