April 17, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown Hoyas are traveling to Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend for a three-game set against conference foe Butler. The Hoyas currently sit at 13-24 overall and 3-7 in BIG EAST play after dropping two-of-three to DePaul last weekend at Guy Mason Field. Butler holds a record of 18-22 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
This is the second series the teams will play against one another. The first ever meeting between the two schools came last season which was also Butler's first in the BIG EAST. The Bulldogs took two-of-three from Georgetown to take the series. Over the three-game set, the Hoyas were narrowly outscored by the Bulldogs 11-8.
GU defeated DePaul, 5-4, for the first time in 11 meetings on Saturday, Apr. 11 in a nine-inning affair to pick up its third BIG EAST win. The Hoyas were unable to keep up with the Blue Demons on Sunday, however, as DePaul's bats came alive and the game was ended after five innings with the Blue Demons ahead 14-1.
Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline), Grace Appelbe (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) were bright spots for GU over the three-game series, as they combined for nine hits. Kane is tied with Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) for the team lead in hits at 33. Kane and Giovanniello are first and second on the team in batting average at .284 and .277, respectively.
Kane has shined for GU in the leadoff position, and has displayed a quickness that has also allowed her to go 17-of-21 in stolen base attempts. She is second in the conference in that category behind only Sarah Gronowski of Butler who is a perfect 21-of-21 in stolen bases.
Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) has started 16 games in the circle for the Blue & Gray, and has a record of 10-12. Over 132.2 innings of work, she has amassed an ERA of 3.27 which is sixth in the BIG EAST. Her 136 strikeouts are second in the conference.
