May 3, 2015 Final Stats
WASHINGTON - Senior pitcher Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) struck out six and no-hit Seton Hall on Sunday as Georgetown would go on to defeat the Pirates, 7-1, in the BIG EAST series finale, it was the second no-hitter of Hyson's career, Hyson recorded a no-hitter last season when the Hoyas defeated Stony Brook, 6-0, on March 1.
Win the victory, GU concludes the 2015 campaign with an overall record of 15-32 and a 5-14 mark in conference play.
As had been the trend for Georgetown over the course of the weekend, the Hoyas got off to a quick start and led after the top of the first inning. Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) started things off as she singled up the middle from the leadoff spot. One batter later, Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) hit a two-shot home run to center field that put the Hoyas up 2-0.
The lead increased in the top of the third inning as Hyson reached first on a fielder's choice which allowed Kane to cross home and moved the score to 3-0 in favor of GU.
Seton Hall was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third as a fielding error by the second baseman allowed the Pirates to score an unearned run to move the score to 3-1; it was the only offense Seton Hall would muster for the remainder of the game, however.
A sacrifice fly to center field by Hyson in the top of the fifth inning increased the GU lead to 4-1. Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) scored after leading things off for the Hoyas with a single through the left side at the top of the inning.
Georgetown wasn't done yet, however, as the sixth inning produced the final three runs off of six hits.
Grace Appelbe (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) started things off with a double to left center that was followed by a single courtesy of Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr). Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) brought Appelbe home as she singled through the right side and made it 5-1. Elvina came home following a single from Kane at the top of the order to move ahead 6-1, the final run came when Hyson singled to the shortstop which allowed Payton Lawton (Yorba Linda, Calif./Rosary), who pinch ran for Henry, to come home and seal the 7-1 victory.
"I think we saved our best for last," said Head Coach Pat Conlan. "I'm proud of the accomplishments of the class of 2015 and I'm proud that they spent the last four years with us. I could not have asked for better people to represent us."
Kane led all batters with three hits while Giovanniello and Ramsey had two. Hyson, Appelbe, Elvina and Henry each had one.
