Sept. 11, 2015 WASHINGTON - The No. 25/RV Georgetown University men's soccer squad will host the Radford University Highlanders (3-0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are currently 1-2-1 on the season playing a tough slate.
GU bounced back with a huge 3-1 victory over the then-No. 1/2 UCLA Bruins (1-2-0) in front of a sellout crowd Monday afternoon at Shaw Field. The Blue & Gray controlled the first half, and managed to hold on for the first victory of the season as well as the first win over the No. 1 team in the country in program history. Junior Brett Campbell (Wallingford, Pa./The Haverford School) scored two goals in the victory.
The Hoyas lost a tough one to the University of Akron Zips (2-1-0), 1-0, Friday afternoon at Shaw Field.
Campbell leads the team in scoring with four points on two goals. Sophomore midfielder Arun Basuljevic (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and senior forward Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Josephs) both had two points on the year. Basuljevic scored a goal in the UCLA win and Allen posted a pair of assists. Freshman goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski has been impressive in the net with 18 saves to his credit over four games.
Second-half goals by Sivert Daehlie and Daniel O'Keefe broke a halftime deadlock to propel the Radford men's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference win over Howard Tuesday night at Cupp Stadium. Taylor Martin found the back of the net just 23 seconds into the match off a pass from the backline by O'Keefe. After Nigel Grant drew the Bison level in the 24th minute, Daehlie converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute for the go-ahead goal. O'Keefe provided an insurance goal in the 82nd minute off a corner by fellow defender Fraser Colmer.
The Hoyas are 1-0 all-time against the Highlanders. The lone meeting was a 2-0 victory at home during the 2011 season.
Saturday is the third contest in a three-game homestand for the Blue & Gray. Live stats as well as a webcast featuring Dan Helfrich will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
There will be a postgame autograph session for all fans in attendance. Members of the Hoya Kids Club can receive free pizza before the game as well. To join the Hoya Kids Club, visit: http://www.guhoyas.com/ot/kidsclub-index.html
