Women's Lacrosse Holds Annual Banquet

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad held its annual banquet Sunday morning at the Georgetown Conference Center. The banquet honored the 2015 squad for its accomplishments with the graduated seniors returning for the event. The eight team awards were announced and the squad's achievements were recognized.

Defender Adrianne Devine (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) was named the 2015 Most Valuable Player.

Devine was a two-time IWLCA Second Team All-South Region honoree. The co-captain started all 17 games for the Hoyas in 2015 and had an impressive eight goals along with three assists as a defender for 11 points. She had a hat trick in the one-goal victory over UConn in league play. On the defensive side of the ball, Devine had 28 causer turnovers to lead the team, sits at 16th in Georgetown's caused turnover's in a season and rank 22nd in the nation. She was second on the team in draw controls with 25.

She left Georgetown fifth among the all-time career leaders in caused turnovers with 93 and sits at 16th in career draw controls with 79. Devine is also fourth on GU's season listing with 39 caused turnovers and ranks 19th in draw controls with 41, both coming in 2014.

Devine was a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST selection, marking the second time in her career. She earned one Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2015 and a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree as well as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Senior midfielder Kassandra Bowling (Monkton, Md./Bryn Mawr School) was named the Most Improved Player. Bowling appeared in all 17 games with 16 starts to her credit. She tallied assists against Loyola and Maryland for two points on the season and managed 19 ground balls, 14 draw controls as well as 10 caused turnovers.

The Bulldog Award, given to a player that displayed outstanding effort and contributions to the squad, was awarded to attacker Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City).

Tarzian was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree as a senior marking her fourth-consecutive All-BIG EAST selection and third nod to the first team. The co-captain started all 17 games for the Hoyas in 2015 and led the Blue & Gray in scoring with 25 goals and 10 assists for 35 points. She had a hat trick in a loss to Princeton. Tarzian ranked third in draw controls with 19 and also had 18 ground balls to her credit. Tarzian left Georgetown ranking 10th in career goals (124), 12th in career assists (51) and 11th in career points (175).

She earned one nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in 2015 and was also a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree. In her career, Tarzian was an All-American, a two-time All-Region selection and a four-time All-BIG EAST honoree. She has also been a part of the U.S. National Team pool.

Graduate midfielder Mollie Caputo (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville Manlius) was the winner of the Kim Simons Coaches' Award for the player that best demonstrates the qualities of coachability, positive attitude and leadership. Caputo played in 12 games with six starts. She had four goals and two assists on the year for six points, this included a one goal, two assist performance at Villanova.

Graduate defender Casey McGowan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) was given the Denis Kanach Hoya Award which recognizes the unsung hero who best demonstrates unselfish play and true team spirit. McGowan started all 17 games for the Blue & Gray in 2015. She ranked second on the squad in ground balls with 28, and posted eight caused turnovers. On the offensive end, McGowan tallied an assist in the BIG EAST Championship against Connecticut.

The Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year award went to sophomore midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover). Seibel appeared in all 17 games with six starts, and was GU's fifth-leading scorer with 11 goals and three assists for 14 points. Seibel picked up 16 ground balls and pulled in eight draw controls while causing 10 turnovers on defense.

The Star Award was given to the player to earn the most stars throughout the season. Stars were given following each game by meeting statistical goals. This was awarded to Devine for her efforts on both offense and defense.

The Red Star Award given to the player that best prepared the team for that week's opponent and went to graduate Lauren Schwalje (Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's). The midfielder appeared in 14 games and had six goals on the season as well as two draw controls and four ground balls.

The coaching staff also chooses to recognize a person that has made a significant impact on the squad. This year, Athletic Trainer, Emily Deck, was awarded the Dr. Christopher Joyner 13th Man Appreciation Award, given to the person who contributes to the program behind the scenes.

The event concluded with a musical tribute to the graduates from the senior class, remarks from the Class of 2015 and the playing of the 2015 highlight video.

The Hoyas finished the 2015 season with a mark of 7-10 overall and were the BIG EAST Conference Regular Season Champions. The squad graduated nine seniors, but returns four of its top five scorers in 2016.

The Hoyas began fall play on Friday against Navy at Multi-Sport Field.
