WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team fell in its first Patriot League game of the season, 35-3, to Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon before a sellout crowd at Cooper Field. The Hoyas dropped to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in the conference play, while the Mountain Hawks won their fifth straight and improved to 5-2 and 2-0 in league action.

Clay Norris (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) finished 15-of-25 passing for 79 yards. Christian Bermudez (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) totaled 38 yards rushing while Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md./Northwest) led the receivers with 26 yards. The Hoyas did not commit a turnover, a week after turning the ball over five times.

J'V'on Butler (Melbourne, Fla./Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy) led the defense with a game-high 11 tackles, including one tackle-for-loss (TFL), and had one of Georgetown's two touchdowns. Leo Loughrey (Glenshaw, Pa./Central Catholic) had nine tackles and a pass breakup while Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) finished with eight tackles, including one sack and two TFL, and had a big pass breakup that led to a Hunter Kiselick (Nutley, N.J./Bergen Catholic) interception.

Harry McCollum (Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator) averaged 44.9 yards on seven punts. He had one punt inside the 20-yard line and also tied a career high with a 64-yard boot.

Both offenses picked up first downs on their first drive, but no points were put on the board. Lehigh jumped out to a 7-0 lead on its second drive with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Gatlin Casey, who finished with two touchdowns and 164 yards receiving.

The Mountain Hawks extended their lead to 14-0 on an 11-yard touchdown pass to complete an 11-play, 65-yard drive to open the second quarter.

The GU defense forced a three-and-out on Lehigh's next possession, including a seven-yard sack by Bryan Jefferson (Vienna, Va./Annandale). On the ensuing punt, Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) fielded the kick at his own 48-yard line and sprinted down the left sideline for a 27-yard return to the Lehigh 25-yard line. The Hoyas drove down to the 6-yard line before Henry Darmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason) kicked a 24-yard field goal to cut Georgetown's deficit to 14-3.

Lehigh was driving at the end of the half, but on a first-and-10 from the Georgetown 14-yard line, Tate tipped a pass at the line of scrimmage and Kiselick made the diving catch for GU's second red zone interception.

The Mountain Hawks scored on their first two drives of the third quarter, on a 1-yard rush and a 57-yard pass, to extend its lead to 28-3. They completed the scoring with another 1-yard rush with 12:43 left in the fourth quarter.

The Hoyas will travel to Fordham for their first Patriot League road contest next Saturday, October 22. Kickoff in the Bronx is scheduled for 1 p.m.
