Final Stats

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette College scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions in third quarter to defeat the Georgetown University football team, 17-3, on Saturday afternoon in a Patriot League game at Fisher Stadium. With the loss, the Hoyas fell to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Brock Johnson (Newport Beach, Calif./Mission Viejo) made his first career start at quarterback and finished 12-of-23 for 107 yards. Clay Norris (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) played most of the fourth quarter and completed four passes for 26 yards. Alex Valles (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) finished with 65 yards rushing and 18 yards receiving while Justin Harrell (New Orleans, La./Newman) led the receiving corps with four catches for 40 yards.

Jethro Francois (Miami, Fla./Winter Haven/Victory Christian Academy) led the defense with 10 tackles, while J'V'on Butler (Melbourne, Fla./Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy) and Brennan Sawicki (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) each contributed nine. Phil Novacki (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had two sacks to go along with four tackles and one quarterback hurry.

Neither team could muster much offense on their first couple of possessions. On Lafayette's third drive, a 37-yard pass and a 15-yard penalty put the Leopards into the red zone. The GU defense held, but Lafayette took a 3-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal.

An eight-yard sack by Novacki eventually forced a Lafayette punt from near midfield. Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) broke through the line and got his hand on the punt for his third punt block of the season, and his second in as many weeks. The Hoya offense took over in Lafayette territory and passes to Harrell, Justin Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) and Valles drove the ball down to the 9-yard line. Henry Harmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason) put Georgetown on the board with a 26-yard field goal, tying the game, 3-3 with 6:56 left in the second quarter.

The score remained the same at the midway point. On its second drive of the third quarter, following a 34-yard completion, Lafayette punched the ball in on a 1-yard rush by the quarterback to take a 10-3 lead.

Two plays after an interception, the Leopards scored again, this time on a 17-yard run to extend their lead to 17-3 with just 44 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Georgetown put together a long drive late in the fourth quarter, including rushes of 12 and 22 yards by Valles, but a sack on fourth down ended the scoring threat as Lafayette ran out the rest of the clock.

The Hoyas will return home to Cooper Field next Saturday for two-consecutive games, starting with a matchup against Holy Cross on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m.
