Dec. 19, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Softball Head Coach Pat Conlan has announced the team's spring 2017 spring schedule, which will include a challenging non-conference slate of games, on top of the competitive BIG EAST conference schedule. In all, the Hoyas will face off against three teams that reached the NCAA tournament last spring in USC Upstate, Texas A&M and Butler.
"I'm thrilled with our schedule," Conlan said. "We have a balanced schedule with games against schools in 15 different conferences. Our goal is to get the team ready for BIG EAST Conference play and I feel the tough early season matchups will do just that."
The Hoyas will begin the spring with four-consecutive trips into warmer weather to Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The stretch begins with a tournament in Miami, Florida hosted by Florida International. The three-day tournament that runs from February 10-12 will have the Hoyas face off against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers to begin the season, and will also play against host FIU for two games, a rematch with Rutgers and finish with Memphis.
The season continues with a trip to the state of South Carolina for a tournament co-hosted by USC Upstate and Furman, February 17-18, with games against Colgate, Furman, Towson and USC Upstate. USC Upstate reached the NCAA tournament in 2016.
The team returns to Florida to end February with a tournament hosted by Eastern Michigan in East Madeira from February 24-26. The tournament will feature games against host Eastern Michigan, Loyola-Chicago, Manhattan, Army West Point, and Brown.
March will open up in the state of Texas, for a tournament hosted by Texas A&M from March 3-5. This will include a pair of games versus both Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M, and a matchup with Texas-San Antonio. Texas A&M reached the NCAA tournament in 2016. The Texas trip will conclude on March 7 with a doubleheader at Houston.
The Blue & Gray then hosts Rider for a doubleheader on March 15. The two games will be played at the Nationals Youth Academy.
The final tournament for the Hoyas before BIG EAST games will be hosted by UNC-Wilmington from March 17-19. This will include a pair of games against St. Bonaventure and UMASS-Lowell and a single game against host UNCW.
BIG EAST play begins with a homestand on Guy Mason Field with the Hoyas hosting Creighton, March 25-26 and Providence, April 1-2.
The team then hits the road for five straight games starting with a midweek game at Towson on April 5. The next stop will be at Seton hall for a conference series, April 8-9, and conclude at Mount St. Mary's on April 12.
A midweek matchup with the University of Virginia on April 18, will be sandwiched between a pair of home BIG EAST matchups. These matchups will be against Villanova, April 14-15, and against Depaul, April 22-23.
The regular season will conclude on the road when the Hoyas travel to St. Johns, April 29-30, and to 2016 BIG EAST champion Butler to end the season, March 6-7.
The BIG EAST championships will take place from May 12-13. The Hoyas look to return to the championships for the first time since 2013.
