July 22, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Ricky Fried and Assistant Coach Danielle Etrasco both traveled to England last month for a five-game tour with the U.S. Women's Lacrosse team. Fried is the head coach and Etrasco is seeing a lot of minutes for the squad.
The U.S. was unbeaten in five matches during the tour, which was held at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, England. The 2017 FIL World Cup will be held at the same venue next year.
The U.S. team opened the trip with a 21-7 victory over the English developmental squad. The next day, the U.S. picked up another pair of wins, shutting out Scotland, 20-0, that morning before taking down England that evening, 20-2.
On the final day of competition, the U.S. side registered two more dominant victories, defeating Germany by a tally of 19-1 before knocking off Wales, 20-1. Etrasco led the American offense with four goals against Germany.
"We didn't let the outside distractions impact how we went about what we wanted to do," said U.S. Team Head Coach Ricky Fried. "The consistent level of play that we had over this week was the best I've seen from a U.S. team since I've been a part of it."
The 24 players who traveled to England, along with 81 others, will converge for the 2017 U.S. Women's National Team tryouts August 5-7 at the US Lacrosse national training center in Sparks, Md.
Etrasco won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2009 FIL World Cup. Fried has won gold as an assistant and head coach in 2009 and 2013, respectively.
