Box Score

Villanova, Pa. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (8-5, 0-3 BIG EAST) fell, 71-50, to the Villanova University Wildcats (5-8, 1-2 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at The Pavilion on Wednesday evening. It was GU's first conference road game of the season and the start of a three-game road trip for the Blue & Gray.

Three Hoyas scored in double figures as sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way with 18 points and pulled down six rebounds as well as tallying five steals. Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) scored 14 points with a squad-best nine rebounds, while senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) managed 11 points.

Georgetown outrebounded Villanova, 35-34, and forced 14 Wildcat turnovers on 10 steals while committing just 13 giveaways. GU shot just 32.1 percent from the field (18-of-56), while allowing Villanova 47.4 percent shooting (27-of-57) as well as 12 3-pointers.

Five points from White made it a one-possession game early on, but the Wildcats got hot from long range and hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the first to take a seven-point lead. This would stand as the quarter ended making it 12-5 at the conclusion of the stanza.

Villanova opened the second with a pair of buckets, but the Hoyas answered with a steal from senior guard Mykia Jones (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook/Wake Forest) and a trey on the other end. The deficit moved right back to 10 as the Wildcats came down and hit another 3-pointer to keep Georgetown at bay.

A big defensive stop gave the Blue & Gray momentum as Woodard converted the layup on the other end. Adomako then sank a 3-pointer to make it 19-14.

Georgetown began to score, but 3-pointers continued to build the lead for Villanova. The Wildcats ended the half with four-consecutive treys and a last-second layup to make it 35-23 at the half.

Villanova didn't cool off during the break as the squad continued to fire from beyond the arc moving ahead by as much as 20 at one point in the third quarter. Adomako caught fire late as she penetrated the lane and managed three-consecutive layups to give GU a spark. Late free throws for the 'Cats made it 53-35 at the end of the third quarter.

The Hoyas tried to battle back in the fourth quarter, but Villanova held off every advance. As the minutes ticked by, the Blue & Gray couldn't stop the shooters and fell, 71-50.

Georgetown will continue its three-game road trip at Creighton University on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Links to live stats can be found in the schedule on www.GUHoyas.com.
