WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team closed out the 2017 season on Saturday, falling to Colgate University, 35-10, in a Patriot League matchup at Cooper Field. With the loss, the Hoyas finish the season at 1-10 overall and 0-6 in league play, while the Raiders wrap up at 7-4 on the year, and 5-1 in conference action.

David Akere (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) led all players with 14 tackles, giving him 274 for his career which is good for fifth all-time in Georgetown's record books. Daniel Yankovich (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) also finished in double figures with 10 tackles, while Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy) and Matthew Deal (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) each chipped in nine.

Tim Barnes (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) returned to action after missing the past eight weeks with injury, and completed eight passes for 72 yards. Isaac Ellsworth (Bedford, Texas/Euless Trinity) led the rushing attack with 31 yards, while Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) had a team-high four catches. Tommy Jesson (Orlando, Fla./East River) had 38 yards to lead the receiving corps.

Brad Hurst (Helen, Ga./White County) averaged 47.4 yards on five punts including a 71-yard boot in the third quarter that is the third longest in program history.

The Hoyas came out flying as Tate intercepted the first play from scrimmage, his first career interception, and returned it 29 yards for the touchdown to give the Blue & Gray a 7-0 lead just nine seconds into the game.

On Colgate's second possession, a combined tackle from Akere and Tate forced a turnover on downs and, following first down passes to Dereus and Alex Valles (Danvers, Mass./Danvers), Hurst kicked a 36-yard field goal to extend GU's lead to 10-0 with 8:51 left in the first quarter.

The Raiders answered with a 13-play, 68-yard drive to pull within 10-7, and then scored on their first possession of the second quarter to take a 14-10 lead. Following an interception by Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek/Arizona), Colgate extended its advantage to 21-10 with a 19-yard touchdown pass with under two minutes before halftime.

Colgate put together drives of 17 and seven plays on each of its first two possessions of the third quarter, scoring twice to take a 35-10 lead.

The Hoyas moved into Colgate territory on a 38-yard pass from Barnes to Jesson on their final possession, but were unable to convert it into points as they eventually turned the ball over on downs and the Raiders ran out the remainder of the clock.

Notes -- The Hoyas recognized their 27 seniors in a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
