Georgetown Finishes Second and Third at Bucknell Invite

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team broke three more school records on the final day of the Bucknell Invite, bringing the weekend total to nine record-breaking swims. At the end of 40 events, the Hoya men finished second, while the GU women placed third. Racing took place at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.

On the men's side, the Hoyas finished with 1,214.5 points, behind only Towson, which won with 1,321 points. La Salle (1,083.5) took third, while Fordham (943), Old Dominion (860), Binghamton (725.5) and the host Bison (625.5) rounded out the men's standings.

The Hoya women finished with 1,209.5 points, placing behind both Towson (1,545.5) and Bucknell (1,322). The Blue & Gray narrowly edged Fordham (1,200), while Old Dominion (612), La Salle (513), Binghamton (430) and Howard (15) round out the final four.

Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) set his fifth program record of the weekend in the morning prelims of the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:47.39. He placed second in the evening finals in 1:47.63.

Andrew Stange (St. James, N.Y./Saint Anthony's), who broke Georgetown's record in the 200-yard freestyle on Saturday, accomplished the same feat in the 100 on Sunday. He finished in 45.16 seconds, breaking the previous record by .22 seconds and winning by just .16 seconds.

Lauren Henasey (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academic) also set a Georgetown record in Sunday's prelims, finishing the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.28. She was just one-hundredth of a second off that time in the finals, placing second in 2:01.29.

Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School), who won the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday, finished the sweep with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke. She had the best time (2:17.27) in the morning prelims by nearly a full second, and improved that by almost four seconds as she touched the wall in 2:13.37.

The Hoyas received several second- and third-place finishes on Sunday. Christina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who broke the 500-yard freestyle record on Friday, placed second in the 1,650 in 16:52.24, while Evie Mauzé (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) took second in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:00.47. In the 100-yard freestyle, Belinda Donohoe (Cambridge, Mass./Concord Carlisle) and Laine Morgan (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades School) placed third and fourth, respectively, touching the wall just two- hundredths of a second apart.

On the men's side, Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) took second in the 3-meter dive with 282.95 points. Terry Johnson (Carmichael, Calif./Jesuit) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly, with a 1:52.71. The quartet of Jack Calderwood (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit), Carbone, Johnson and Stange wrapped up racing with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle.

Georgetown will return to competition after the holiday season when the Hoyas open the second semester against American and George Washington on Saturday, January 13. The meet will take place at American's Reeves Aquatic Center.
