WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team lost 2-0 today against host FIU to move to 0-5 on the season. This was the final game of the Felsburg Invitational in Miami, Fla.
Freshman Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison) started in the circle for the Hoyas, going 3.1 innings and gave up one earned run on six hits. Freshman Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) came on in relief and went the rest of the way. Pacha went 2.2 innings and gave up one earned run on two hits and struck out four.
GU put runners in scoring position in the fourth inning. Junior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) led off the inning with a single and was moved to second base when freshman Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) was hit by a pitch. The inning was ended with back-to-back strikeouts.
In the seventh, freshman Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) delivered a one-out single but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. However, the game was ended with a fly out.
The Hoyas return to action next weekend with the USC Upstate Classic. The first game of the tournament will take place against Colgate at noon on February 17.
