The Georgetown University women's golf team posted its best round of the tournament on Wednesday and closed out its appearance in the NCAA Lubbock Regional by finishing in 16th place among 18 teams at The Rawls Course on the campus of Texas Tech University.

The Hoyas advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history after winning the BIG EAST Championship for the first time in late April. It was the most successful season in program history for the Blue & Gray, who had five runner-up finishes this year, recorded six of the top-10 team scores in program history during the year and saw three players earn all-league honors, including one who was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year.

After overnight thunderstorms pushed the start of Wednesday's final round back an hour, the Hoyas posted a 17-over par 305 and finished with a 54-hole score of 62-over par 926.

The top six teams advance to the NCAA Championship in Illinois next week. Arizona State fired a 16-under par 272 on Wednesday and finished at 22-under par 842, beating the field of 18 teams by 21 shots. Furman finished in second place at 1-under par 863, with Oregon third at 3-over par 867, Texas fourth at 5-over par 869, Texas Tech fifth at 9-over par 873 and Kent State sixth at 11-over par 875.

Junior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./Taft) had Georgetown's best round of the tournament on Tuesday, firing a 1-over par 73. She had four birdies on the front nine and had a chance to finish under par for the round, but double bogied her final hole, the ninth, to finish at 73. She finished in a tie for 72nd place at 16-over par 232.

Sophomore Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) was the top finisher for the Hoyas overall, tying for 66th place at 13-over par 229. Popowitz carded a 4-over par 76 on Wednesday. She posted a 3-over par 75 in Tuesday's second round and, at one point, was 3-under par and had a chance to be among the individuals who could advance to the NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) was two shots back, finishing in a tie for 72nd place at 15-over par 231. She posted three-straight rounds of 5-over par 77, including a pair of birdies on the front nine on Wednesday.

Junior Lauren Gros (Windermere, Fla./Windermere Prep) and freshman Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Sammamish) tied for 84th place with scores of 22-over par 238. Gros shot a 6-over par 78 in the third round, while Fitzgibbons finished at 8-over par 80.

It was an exciting five days in Lubbock for the Hoyas, who were joined by each of their families during the team's first appearance in an NCAA Tournament. After the round on Tuesday, the team, staff and families ate dinner at Jones Stadium, the 62,000-seat home of the Texas Tech football team, and had a chance to be on the field and take pictures.
