Sept. 25, 2017 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer freshman forward Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. The No. 16 Hoyas are 6-1-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
Dodson scored both goals in the Hoyas come-from-behind victory at DePaul in his home state on Saturday. He scored the game-tying goal in the 42nd minute and scored the game winner with just over a minute left to play in the game. Dodson came in off the bench and played 67 minutes in the win against DePaul, with four shots all on goal. In the come-from-behind overtime victory over Stony Brook on Wednesday, Dodson took one shot and played 48 minutes.
The freshman is second on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points. He has appeared in all eight games.
This is the first weekly award of Dodson's career. Georgetown has had three weekly awards as well as three nods to the honor roll awards so far this year. It is the first freshman of the week honor for the Blue & Gray this season.
Georgetown will have the week off before hosting the Marquette University Golden Eagles on Saturday at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
