WASHINGTON – Seniors
Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) and
Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) were named BIG EAST Players of the Week on Monday, announced by the league office.
Farrell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Schechtman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, marking No. 7 Georgetown's seventh-straight week being recognized by the BIG EAST.
The Hoyas went 2-0 last week, shutting out conference opponents DePaul and Seton Hall, 3-0, in both matches.
Farrell recorded four points between both matches last week, tallying one goal during each win. The forward scored the third and final goal against the Blue Demons last Thursday at Shaw Field off of an assist from senior
Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.J. / Central Regional). Against Seton Hall on Sunday, Farrell connected with sophomore
Grace Nguyen (Lilburn, Ga. / Parkview) from midfield, finding herself one-on-one with SHU's goalkeeper and blasted the ball past her to give the Hoyas a 2-0 lead.
Farrell tallied her ninth goal of the season against the Pirates, her career high at Georgetown, and is on a six-game scoring streak. She currently leads the Blue & Gray with 19 points from nine goals and an assist. Farrell ranks first in the BIG EAST in points (19), shots (52), shots per game (4.33), goals (9) and goals per game (.75).
Last week, Farrell was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. This is her third-consecutive week being recognized by the conference. The senior was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in August and was selected to the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Schechtman recorded two shutouts last week, her fourth straight and eighth overall this year. The goalkeeper had a season-high eight saves in Thursday's 3-0 win over DePaul and tallied one save against the Pirates. Schechtman ranks first in the BIG EAST in GAA (.19), save percentage (.958) and shutouts this season (8). This is her fourth nod to the league honors this season and her second-straight week being named Goalkeeper of the Week.
The Blue & Gray will visit Creighton on Thursday, Oct. 4 in Omaha, Nebraska. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and live stats and video will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
