Five Hoyas Named to United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Team

WASHINGTON – Five members of the Georgetown University women's soccer team were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region teams on Monday. Four players were named to the first team and one earned a nod to the third team. Georgetown, who holds a 21-0-3 record, was the only university to have five players honored, as well as the only school who had more than two players on the first team.

Seniors Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) and Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) were named to the first team for the second year in a row. Graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) and junior Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) also made the first team, while junior Paula Germino-Watnick earned a spot on the third team.

Schechtman, Farrell and Nally were major BIG EAST award winners this season and earned spots on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Germino-Watnick also joined them on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Schechtman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, Farrell earned Offensive Player of the Year and Nally was the Defensive Player of the Year. Carusa earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Farrell was the only player in the conference to earn a unanimous vote on the first team and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, along with Carusa. Additionally, Farrell was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player in the team's third-straight BIG EAST Championship title.

Farrell leads the squad with 39 points from 18 goals and three assists, while Carusa has tallied 32 points off of 10 goals and 12 assists. Germino-Watnick ranks third on the team with 22 points made of eight goals and six assists and Nally has recorded nine points from three goals and three helpers. Schechtman tallied her 15th clean sheet this season in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Baylor in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. She has allowed just seven goals in her 22 games in the net, registering a .310 GAA, 77 saves and a .917 save percentage.

The top-seeded Hoyas have advanced to the College Cup for the second time in three years. They defeated No. 2-seeded Baylor on Saturday 3-0 to move on to the semifinals in Cary, North Carolina. The Blue & Gray will face the No. 1-seeded University of North Carolina on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park. The game can be watched on ESPNU.
