Farrell, Schechtman and Nally Named All-American

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University women's soccer players Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall), Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) and Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) were named All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday evening. Farrell and Schechtman were named to the first team and Nally earned a spot on the third team.

All three Hoyas were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team on Monday, and on Tuesday, Farrell and Schechtman were named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists. Earlier this season, Farrell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, Schechtman was BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and Nally earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, while all three also earned spots on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Farrell made the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and was selected as the tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player.

Schechtman leads the nation in shutouts with 15 on the season and ranks second in GAA (.308) and save percentage (.917). She has registered 77 saves this season in the net. Additionally, Schechtman is the all-time career leader at Georgetown with 47 shutouts.

Farrell leads the Hoyas with 39 points from 18 goals and three assists. She is tied for first at Georgetown with most goals in a single season (18) and is second in the country in game-winning goals (8), third in total goals (18) and fourth in total points (39).

Nally has anchored a defense that has allowed just nine goals on the season and 179 total shots from GU's opponents in 24 games. The junior has tallied nine points from three goals and three assists, including the game-winning goal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Washington State.

This is the ninth-straight year a Hoya women's soccer player has earned All-American under Head Coach Dave Nolan. Under Nolan, nine players have received 15 All-American honors. This is the first time in program history that three players have earned All-American in the same year.

The top-seeded Hoyas have advanced to the College Cup for the second time in three years. They defeated No. 2-seeded Baylor on Saturday 3-0 to move on to the semifinals in Cary, North Carolina. The Blue & Gray will face the No. 1-seeded University of North Carolina on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park. The game can be watched on ESPNU.
