Women’s Soccer Named National Staff of the Year

WASHINGTON – After leading the Georgetown University women's soccer team to its most successful year in program history, Head Coach Dave Nolan and his staff have been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches as the National Staff of the Year, announced on Friday by the organization.

"This is obviously a great honor for my staff and I," said Nolan. "The successful year we had was a result of all the hard work put forth by our players primarily, the best efforts of our support staff and administration and lastly, my assistant coaches who work tirelessly for our program. To receive this award now for the second time in three years is very flattering when I consider the tremendously successful staffs nationally and the success they have had also. Our whole program is very proud that we are so well thought of in the soccer community today."

Nolan and his staff were one of six groups recognized, along with the winner for the NCAA Division I men (Saint Mary's (Calif.)), Division II men (Barry) and women (University of Bridgeport) and Division III men (Tufts) and women (Washington University). The award recipients will be recognized at the United Soccer Coaches College Coaches Awards Reception on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 at the convention in Chicago.

In November, Nolan and his staff were recognized as the United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year. Georgetown was one of 24 teams recognized in NCAA Division I, II and III women's soccer. Among those teams, three of Georgetown's 2018 NCAA Tournament opponents were also honored, including Central Connecticut State, Baylor University and the University of North Carolina.

This is the second time that Nolan and his staff were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches, formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). They were recognized in 2016 when the Hoyas also made it to the College Cup. Earlier this season, Nolan and his staff was named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for the third time in program history.

Nolan is in his 15th year as the head coach at Georgetown. He has been joined on his staff by fourth-year assistant coaches Lyndse Hokanson and Kristen Meier and volunteer assistant coach Alex Minton. He earned his 200th win on October 4, 2018 in GU's third-straight BIG EAST Championship. Nolan has finished the last 12 seasons with at least 10 wins and has an overall coaching record of 204-81-38, the winningest record in program history.

Georgetown completed the 2018 campaign as the most successful team in program history. The Hoyas finished the season with an overall record of 21-1-3, the most wins in program history, and reached the College Cup for the second time in three years. The Blue & Gray three-peated the BIG EAST Championship and won back-to-back BIG EAST regular season titles.
