WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2019 season. The Hoyas will play a challenging schedule, including four teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Blue & Gray will play 17 home games at the Nationals Youth Academy, five of which will occur in GU's third annual District Classic.
The Hoyas will kick off the 2019 campaign playing in six-straight tournaments across the country. Georgetown will open the season in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, playing at the Gardner-Webb Tournament on February 8-10. The squad will play a pair of games against local rival George Washington, as well as take on Furman and host Gardner-Webb.
The season will continue the following weekend with a trip to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, February 15-17, to play a five-game slate against Seattle, BYU, Utah Valley, UNLV and UC Davis. BYU won the 2018 West Coast Conference Championship for the 10th-straight year and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the 14th year in a row.
Over the course of February 22-24, the Hoyas will head down to Madeira Beach, Florida to compete in a three-day, five-game slate in the Madeira Beach Tournament. The Blue & Gray will face Colgate, Manhattan, North Florida and Purdue, as well as Albany, which fell to BYU in the first round of the NCAA Regionals. The Great Danes recorded back-to-back America East titles last season.
March will open up with the third annual District Classic, hosted by the Hoyas at Nats Academy from March 1-3. This is the third year of the District Classic, but the second time that GU will host it alone. Georgetown will see Bucknell, Brown, St. Joseph's and Howard, as well as Harvard, which captured the 2018 Ivy League Championship title, receiving an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Blue & Gray will play its first non-tournament game on March 6 at North Florida for the second time in the 2019 schedule. The Hoyas will then compete in the Jacksonville Tournament March 8-10 to wrap up its spring break play. Georgetown will face La Salle, host Jacksonville, Ball State, UNC Wilmington and Cleveland State.
The squad will wrap up tournament play down the road at George Washington for the George Washington Tournament, March 15-17. The Hoyas will play a pair of games against Stony Brook and Oakland and will close out the tournament on Sunday against GW.
BIG EAST Conference play will feature home series against Creighton (March 23-24), BIG EAST reigning champions DePaul (April 6-7), Villanova (April 18-19) and Providence (May 4-5). The Hoyas will travel to St. John's (March 30-31), Butler (April 13-14) and Seton Hall (April 27-28).
Georgetown will play two weekday games against local teams. The Blue & Gray will play at Towson on April 10 and at George Mason on April 24.
