Farrell Named MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist

WASHINGTON – Senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) of the Georgetown women's soccer team has been named a MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist, announced Friday by the organization. The forward is one of three women's finalists in the running for the prestigious award. The 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 4, 2019 to formally announce this year's winners.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Jon Bakero (Wake Forest) and Andi Sullivan (Stanford) received the award for outstanding intercollegiate performances during their senior seasons in 2017.

Farrell was unanimously selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and received the only unanimous vote to be on the All-BIG EAST First Team. The senior forward was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and earned the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament. Farrell was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Regional First Team and a First Team All-American. She led the Hoyas in her last season on the Hilltop with 39 points from 18 goals and three assists. She is tied for first at Georgetown with most goals in a single season (18) and finished second in the country in game-winning goals (8), third in total goals (18) and fourth in total points (39).

Farrell is the first player on the GU women's soccer team, and only the second player in school history, to be named a MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist. Former Georgetown men's soccer player Brandon Allen (C'15) was named a finalist for the award in 2015.

Georgetown finished the 2018 campaign as the most successful team in program history. The Hoyas finished the season with an overall record of 21-1-3 and reached the College Cup for the second time in three years. The Blue & Gray three-peated the BIG EAST Championship and won back-to-back BIG EAST Regular Season titles. The team set the program record for most wins (21) and fewest goals allowed (10).
