Feb. 22, 2018 Game Notes - Davidson 
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team returns to the state of North Carolina this weekend for a three-game series at Davidson College. The weekend tilt will get underway on Friday evening at 6 p.m., while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's series finale will get underway at 1 p.m. All three games will be played at Davidson's Wilson Field.

Georgetown is coming off of a tough opening weekend, dropping the first three games of the season to Wake Forest, Gardner-Webb and Navy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) paced the GU offense with a 3-for-7 performance at the plate and was 2-for-2 in stolen bases. Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) had three hits, including a home run and a double, and two RBIs. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) also had three hits and two stolen bases.
Davidson enters this weekend with a 3-1 record after winning two of three against Lafayette to open the year and defeating Wake Forest on Tuesday evening. Cam Johnson and Alex Mardiney lead the Wildcat offense with .333 batting averages, while Johnson has one of Davidson's two home runs. Davidson has a team batting average of .214, but the pitching staff has a modest 1.29 ERA and 36 strikeouts in four games.
Last spring, the Wildcats made a run through the A-10 playoffs before upending the No. 2 national seed, North Carolina, twice in the NCAA regionals to reach the Super Regionals.

Following this weekend's games, the Hoyas will return to the DMV for a midweek matchup at George Washington. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at GW's Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia. The Blue & Gray will then depart for its 10-day, seven-game spring break trip to Port Charlotte, Florida.
