WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team finished the 2018 BIG EAST Championships, presented by Jeep, on a strong note on Saturday, as the Hoya women held on to finish second while the men's squad climbed in the rankings to take third overall. The meet took place at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Freshman Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic), who won two gold medals and a silver in his first BIG EAST Championships, was named the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Meet. Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland), who won the women's 1-meter dive and came in second in the 3-meter event, was named the Most Outstanding Women's Diver of the Meet. Georgetown Diving Coach Michael Tober was named the Women's Diving Coach of the Year.

The GU women finished with 628.5 points, trailing only Villanova (966.5). The Blue & Gray placed ahead of Seton Hall (588), Xavier (555). Butler (235) and Providence (199). The Hoya men finished with 661.5 points, finishing behind Seton Hall (777) and Villanova (749.5). Xavier (638.5) and Providence (213.5) rounded out the standings.

Georgetown senior Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) capped off a tremendous career with her fourth BIG EAST title in the 200-yard breaststroke. She made it a perfect 4-for-4 with a time of 2:12.81 to win by nearly four seconds. The win, coupled with her title in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, gives her seven individual titles in her career, out of a possible eight breaststroke events.

In the women's 1,650-yard freestyle, Christina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) improved her season-best time by nearly 10 seconds, and set the new program record by five seconds. She placed second with a time of 16:42.53, while Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) finished fifth.

Carbone, who broke his own record in 200-yard backstroke in the morning prelims, reset his record by more than full second in the evening finals with a time of 1:45.41 to win his second gold medal of the championships.

In the men's 200-yard breaststroke, Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) broke the school record that he set himself, touching the wall in 2:02.04 to place fourth.

Justin Summers (Weston, Conn./Weston) claimed a silver medal in the men's 200-yard butterfly, just missing out on gold with a time of 1:50.38.

In the final diving event of the meet -- the men's 3-meter - Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) took silver for the second time at the BIG EAST Championships, scoring a 549.20. Griffin Edmonds (Norwalk, Conn./New Canaan) came in third with a 481.85, while Matthew Werner (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and Jonathan Furlong (Londonderry, N.H./The Derryfield School) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the men's 400-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of Jack Calderwood (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit), Carbone, Kohlhoff and Andrew Stange (St. James, N.Y./Saint Anthony's), set a new GU record with a time of 3:02.08, placing fourth overall.
