GU PBs Highlight Weekend of Events

Feb. 4, 2018

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program split sites over the weekend, competing at both the Scarlet & White Indoor Invitational, hosted by Boston University, as well as the Villanova Invitational, hosted by Villanova University at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Center in Staten Island, New York.

Scarlet & White Indoor Invitational; Boston, Massachusetts (Individual Results)
The Hoyas traveled to Boston for BU's Scarlet & White Indoor Invitational and tallied a pair of personal bests [PBs]. Freshman Rey Rivera (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) ran a PB 1:49.57 to finish ninth overall. Rivera recorded the fastest 800-meter time from a BIG EAST athlete this season and his time is among the top 20 nationally.

Sophomore Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I./La Salle Academy) recorded a time of 4:05.13 to finish fourth in the mile, a PB performance. It was the fourth-fastest mile time in the league thus far this season.

Villanova Invitational; Staten Island, New York (Individual Results)
Competing at the same venue where the BIG EAST Indoor Championships will be held later this month, the Blue & Gray put up strong performances as they got a preview of the championship track.

"This meet gave us an opportunity to have some of our newcomers get acclimated to the Ocean Breeze track facility," Associate Head Coach Alton McKenzie said. "We had some outstanding performances highlighted by freshman Shannon Meisberger running a PR in the 400m and second-best overall on the day, having never run indoor prior to this season.

"Jody-Ann seems to enjoy running at this facility as yet again she ran indoor PBs at the 60- and 200-meter dash on the same day. She's worked hard consistently this entire year and her amazing range across all sprints makes that fact evident."

Jody-Ann Knight's (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) 24.27 in the 200-meter dash was good enough for second place and was three-hundredths of a second faster than her previous best. Knight's time is currently the fastest in the BIG EAST. Teammate Taylor Williams (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham/Clemson) finished fifth with a time of 24.88. The senior also managed a PR 7.69 in the 60-meter dash to finish fifth.

Also putting up a strong race performance was the quartet of Nate Alleyne (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), Lawrence Leake (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), Kino Cheltenham (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Quincey Wilson (Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain), who won the men's 4x400-meter relay.

"On the men's side, it was great to see Kino run an indoor best in the 400m," McKenzie continued. "I think we got some good efforts in and this will prepare us well for when we return to Ocean Breeze for the conference championships."
