Hoyas Host GW in Tuesday Midweek Matchup

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team returns home to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek contest against George Washington. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24. Live stats and a video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.

The Hoyas (14-23, 2-4 BIG EAST) enter Tuesday's matchup after dropping all three games at No. 23 St. John's over the weekend. Georgetown lost the opener, 6-3, despite a two-run double from Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]), before the Red Storm pulled away late to take the second game, 9-1. The Hoyas fell in a heartbreaker, 2-1 in 10 innings, on Sunday despite two hits and the first career home run from Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton).

For the season, Davis leads the Hoyas with a .312 (24-for-77) batting average. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), who has started all 34 games at shortstop, comes in at a .301 (43-for-143) clip and has team highs of nine doubles and 28 RBIs. Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) leads the squad with a career-high three home runs. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) has 15 in stolen bases, ranking second in the BIG EAST, while Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) has nine thefts to rank fourth.

George Washington enters the game with a 22-17 overall record and is 8-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Colonials are batting .289 as a team and are led by Isaiah Pasteur who is hitting at a .366 clip and has nine home runs, 12 doubles and five triples to go along with 35 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Mark Osis (.338), Steven Barmakian (.306) and Robbie Metz (.301) all come in batting over .300. The GW pitching staff owns a 3.77 ERA.

The two teams met back in February at GW's Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia. The Colonials came away with a 6-3 win despite the Hoyas leading for the first six innings and outhitting them, 9-6. Shirley led the offense with a three-hit performance. McCabe had a pair of doubles and Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) also had two hits. Bernstein was on base three times
