WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball squad (14-34, 5-11 BIG EAST) split a pair against top-ranked Creighton on Saturday in a BIG EAST doubleheader. Sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) shut out the Bluejays in the first game, 4-0, and later, GU fell to the hosts in game two, 5-4. The Hoyas currently stand 14-34 overall and 5-11 in the BIG EAST, while Creighton stands at 23-14 overall and holds an 8-3 record in the conference.

In game one, junior Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and sophomore Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) led the Blue & Gray offensively with two hits apiece. Overall, Georgetown tallied six hits against Creighton.

In the circle, Pacha pitched her 16th complete game of the season, as well as her second shutout this year. Pacha did not allow any hits or runs but struck out 12 batters while in the circle.

The Hoyas started out strong and scored their first run of the game in the top of the first when junior power hitter Sarah Bennett (Owings, MD./Northern) singled to left center, scoring senior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington). GU scored two more runs in the top of the sixth when sophomore pinch hitter Ciara Sullivan (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) reached base on an error and collected two RBIs off of it, making the score 3-0.

Georgetown scored its final run in the top of the seventh when Kane scored on a throwing error by Creighton's pitcher Kiele Miller, making the final score 4-0.

In game two, freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda) led GU at the plate with two hits. The Hoyas recorded eight hits against the Bluejays.

Sophomore London Diller (Abilene, Texas/George Ranch) took the nod in the circle, going 3.2 innings while giving up six hits and five runs while walking four and striking out one. Sophomore Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) relieved Diller for the final 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out two.

The Hoyas entered the scoring column in the first inning when Bennett sacrificed a hit to first, advancing Kane to score on the throw, giving Georgetown a 1-0 lead. The Blue & Gray scored again in the top of the fourth when Sullivan sacrificed a hit to the shortstop but scored Jones to make the score 2-0.

The Bluejays scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Georgetown cut the lead to one in the top of the sixth with two more runs. Jones scored GU's third run of the game when sophomore Kelly Amen (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) reached base on an error. Amen made the score 5-4 when Kane singled to left center shortly after.

The Blue & Gray will conclude the three-day BIG EAST series against the Bluejays on Sunday at 12 p.m. for a single contest. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com and can be watched live on BIG EAST Digital Network.
