WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team managed a BIG EAST Conference victory on Saturday as the squad defeated the Butler Bulldogs (1-12, 0-5 BIG EAST), 20-13, in a matchup at Cooper Field. With the in, the Hoyas improved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.

"We had some good moments and we had some average moments so we need to focus and make sure we're playing to our level on a consistent basis," said Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried. "It's always good to get a win in the BIG EAST, so we're at a really good spot at this point in the season, but we need to continue to get better."

Junior attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and sophomore attacker Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) both managed four goals, respectively. Senior midfielder Rachel Rausa (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) scored the hat trick, while senior midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and sophomore midfielder Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) each had two goals in the game. Fourteen different Hoyas scored a point in the contest.

On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) and sophomore Micheline DiNardo (Rye, N.Y./Rye) combined for six saves with Chomo picking up the win.

Gebhardt opened the scoring with a goal just 30 seconds into the contest, and Lynch added her first off of the ensuing draw. The Bulldogs came back with back-to-back scores to tie the game at two with 19:41 remaining in the first and forcing a Hoya timeout.

Bruno came out of the timeout and hit a free position shot, but it was Butler finding another answer to tie the game at three. Sophomore attacker Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) knocked down a free position shot to regain the Hoya advantage at 13:47, and then junior attacker Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) shot around her defender to make it 5-3 and then a Gebhardt free position goal forced a Butler timeout as the Hoyas looked to pull away.

Seibel pushed her way to the goal and found an opening at the eight-minute mark, and Rausa's shot was bobbled by the keeper to make it 8-3. Bruno hit two from the left side to force another Bulldog timeout and continuing a run for the Blue & Gray.

A goal from Gebhardt capped off an 8-0 run to end the half as the Hoyas went into the break leading, 11-3.

Butler scored off of the opening draw, but Bruno had a response. A pair of Bulldog goals in the run of play pulled them within six, but Rausa's second of the afternoon made it 13-6. Butler scored two more to cut the lead to five.

Pulling in the draw, junior defender Josephine Zinn (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) went down and connected on the first goal of her career before Gebhardt, Lynch and freshman midfielder Caroline Frock (Westminster, Md./Westminster) each found the back of the cage to force Butler to regroup.

Rausa made it a 10-goal game at 14:09, and then an unassisted tally from Seibel put the score at 19-8. Butler scored a few in the final minutes, but a late goal from freshman midfielder Madison Ascione (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) made the final 20-13.

The Hoyas will be back in action on Saturday as the squad travels to Vanderbilt University for a 2 p.m. BIG EAST matchup with the Commodores. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
