Baseball Travels to Butler for Pivotal BIG EAST Series

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team travels to Indianapolis this weekend for a pivotal three-game BIG EAST series against Butler. The two teams will open play on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., while Saturday's contest is slated for 3 p.m. and Sunday's finale will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday's and Saturday's games will air on Facebook Live, while Sunday's contest will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN). The Hoyas (23-24, 7-5 BIG EAST) are currently on an eight-game winning streak, tied for the program's longest since 2013, after sweeping a doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday night. GU won by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 in a pair of seven-inning games. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) led the offense with four hits over the two games, including a double and two triples. Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) had a double, a triple and four RBIs, while Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) added a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the first game. Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va./Oakton) and Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas/Emery Weiner) each picked up a win and Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) registered two saves to reach 11 on the year, tying for the most in GU's single-season history.

For the season, Ryan P. Davis leads the Hoyas with a .324 (36-111) batting average. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) is batting .309 (55-for-178) with a team-high 12 doubles while ranking third with 24 RBIs. He is second in the BIG EAST with 17 stolen bases. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) owns a .307 (54-176) batting average and has a team-leading 34 RBIs with 11 doubles to rank second on the team, while Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) is hitting .306 (52-for-170) and leads the squad with a career-high three home runs and 29 walks.

Butler enters the weekend with a 29-15 overall record and is one game behind Georgetown in the BIG EAST standing with a 6-5 conference mark. The Bulldogs lost to Toledo on Wednesday after taking two-of-three games from Xavier last weekend. Tyler Houston leads Butler with a .342 batting average, four home runs and 16 doubles. Gehrig Parker is hitting .328 with 15 doubles, while Garrett Christman has a .325 batting average and a team-high 43 RBIs. As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .274 while the pitching staff owns a 3.77 ERA.

Following this weekend's series, the Hoyas will return home for their final four home games of the regular season. They will host UMBC on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., before welcoming Seton Hall to Shirley Povich Field for a three-game set. The series will be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday as it is the final BIG EAST series. Friday's 4 p.m. game will serve as GU's Senior Day game with a pregame ceremony honoring the senior class.
