WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program competed on the second day of the 2018 NCAA Track & Field Championships, a three-day meet held at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Hoyas will return for the final day of the championships hosted by the University of South Florida on Saturday.

Graduate student Bryan Bjerk (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River/Minnesota) was the first Hoya to step on to the field of competition on the day. Bjerk entered the East Prelims as the 27th-ranked athlete but his throw of 52.87m out of the second flight of the discus was enough to finish 18th overall.

A quick turnaround from the first round to the quarterfinals of the men's 800-meter run proved to be a big obstacle as the Hoya duo of All-American Rey Rivera (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and Ruach Padhal (London, Ont./John Paul II Catholic) were unable to advance on to the semifinals.

Turning in a pair of 15th-place performances in each of their heats, Margie Cullen (Needham, Mass./Needham) and Meredith Rizzo (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville/Yale) were unable to move on to the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals.

All-American Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis Country Day) and Nick Wareham (Woodburry, Minn./Woodbury) will represent the Hoyas on Saturday as they compete in the men's 1,500-meter quarterfinals. The top five from each heat and the next two fastest times will advance on to the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon.

The Hoyas will conclude competition at the NCAA East Prelims Saturday. The meet will be streamed live on FloTrack and available through a FloPro subscription. Live results will be available on www.GUHoyas.com.
